The port measures 80mm wide by 10mm high, low and broad rather than tall and narrow, so the tongue is given room across a wide span while the bar stays well clear of the palate. The mouthpiece is swept forward to follow the arch of the tongue. Port relief moves the load off the centre of the tongue and out onto the bars, which is what a curb mouthpiece is meant to do.

Cheek piece. The same three pressures as the short shank, arriving through a longer lever. The curb chain enters the curb groove, poll pressure is applied through the bridle headpiece and the mouthpiece rolls back onto the tongue and bars. At 70mm the shank engages later, so there is more room in the rein before anything happens and the aid can be asked for quietly. Once engaged it carries further, which is what allows a horse to be asked for genuine flexion at the poll rather than simply shortening. The longer shank also gives the nose more to come back to, which suits a longer neck.

Imported

8244

Premier Equine Int.
