Premier Equine · Rider clothing guide
Waterproofs for riding, yard work and days outdoors.
Choose a longer coat, an insulated jacket or a jacket with matching waterproof trousers. Compare five Premier Equine options around the jobs you do, the coverage you need and how much warmth you want.
Find your PE option ↓Choose women’s waterproof riding clothing by matching coverage and warmth to your routine, from mucking out and checking paddocks to hacking and country walks.
A longer coat adds coverage in one garment. A jacket with waterproof trousers gives separate upper and lower-body protection. Women’s and unisex options should each be checked against their own size guide.
01 · Start with your day
Should you choose a coat, a jacket or a waterproof set?
Choose a coat when added length matters, a jacket when you prefer a shorter garment, and separate trousers when your legs need rain coverage too.
Your routine helps narrow the choice. Feeding and mucking out involve repeated bending and movement. Waiting between rides or walking slowly around the fields may call for more built-in warmth.
Added length
A waterproof riding coat
Look for a longer cut and riding openings. Consider how much coverage the coat offers when seated, and whether its insulation suits your day.
Upper-body coverage
A waterproof jacket
Compare back length, cuffs and pockets, then decide between a lightweight jacket and one with insulating fill. Leg coverage remains a separate choice.
Two separate pieces
A jacket and trousers
Select each size individually. Check the waist overlap, seat construction and lower-leg design, particularly when ordering trousers to wear with riding boots.
02 · Understand the details
What matters in waterproof equestrian clothing?
Check waterproofing, breathability, construction and insulation separately. A waterproof rating describes resistance to water pressure; it does not describe warmth or guarantee a fixed number of dry hours.
Water pressure
What does 5,000mm mean?
A hydrostatic head test measures the water pressure a fabric resists. A 5,000mm rating corresponds to the pressure from a five-metre column of water.
Read that figure alongside the garment’s seams, fastenings and coverage. Use only the rating stated for that individual product.
Active days
Breathability and layers
Breathable fabric allows moisture vapour to escape. That matters during yard work and more active riding, when you produce heat and perspiration.
Comfort also depends on effort, humidity and the layers underneath. Adjust warmth to the activity.
Practical construction
Seams, zips and pockets
Check the seam information and the front closure, then read the pocket details separately. Waterproof zipped pockets and patch pockets have different constructions.
For trousers, compare the waistband, seat and calf openings with the way you intend to wear them.
Built-in warmth
What does 100g fill tell you?
Fill weight describes the insulation specification. It is separate from waterproofing and does not establish one universal temperature range.
Compare each piece separately. An insulated jacket can be paired with trousers that have no insulating fill.

Questions about waterproof riding clothing
Are waterproof riding trousers always designed to go over breeches?
Check the intended fit of the individual trousers. A waterproof description or elasticated waistband does not establish how much room there is for breeches and thermal layers. Use the product measurements and ask for sizing advice if the information does not answer your question.
Do the reflective details on Lumen glow on their own?
Lumen’s reflective detailing responds to light falling on it. The effect depends on the light and surroundings; it is not self-illuminating. Consider the visibility needs of your route and activity separately from the waterproof and insulation specifications.
Does water beading prove a jacket is waterproof?
Beading shows that the outer surface is repelling water. Waterproof performance also depends on the fabric system and garment construction. Check the full specification rather than judging the jacket by droplets on the surface alone.
Why can a waterproof jacket feel damp inside?
Perspiration can collect when moisture is produced faster than it escapes. Workload, humidity and layering affect this. If dampness repeatedly appears in one area, inspect the garment and ask for advice before assuming the cause.
